WASHINGTON (TND) — A Florida man was arrested after he entered a closed Walgreens store and got his fill on sweets.
The New Smyrna Beach Police Department said it was called to a Walgreens on SR-44 for the store's alarm being triggered around 3 a.m. on July 15.
The alarm company said a man was inside the store. The store had been closed since 10 p.m.
When officers arrived they saw a man taking a pack of cigarettes from behind the counter.
Body camera footage shows the officers helping the man, identified as Chris Morgan, figure out how to unlock the doors so he could come out. He was then placed under arrest.
Police said security footage from the store showed Morgan entering the Walgreens around 9:40 p.m. and go into the restroom. He was then seen on footage leaving the bathroom at 2:42 a.m. and walking around "treating himself to various merchandise items including food and cigarettes." Morgan made no attempts to leave or call for help, police said.
When police took Morgan into custody, they found out he had taken and eaten several items includingTostitos spinach dip, chips, Reese’s chocolate, Ghirardelli chocolate bars, Dr. Pepper, and Newport cigarettes.
Police said Morgan resisted efforts to place him in the cop car and spit on an officer.
He was arrested forBurglary of Unoccupied Structure, Larceny – Petit Theft (2+ Prior Convictions), Resisting an Officer without Violence, and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.
