PHILADELPHIA (TND) — Authorities said a man stabbed multiple people at a department store inPhiladelphia, killing at least one security guard, on Monday.
The Philadelphia Police Department said the attack happened around 11 a.m., which was about 15 minutes after the suspect tried to steal merchandise from a Macy's.
Police said two security guards saw the suspect trying to hats from the store and prevented the man from shoplifting at about 10:45 a.m.
The man apparently left the store but later returned and stabbed a 30-year-old guard in the neck and a 23-year-old guard in the face and arm when he tried to help his colleague.
The 30-year-old security guard was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other guard was being treated for his injuries, police said, but details about his condition were not disclosed.
The suspect fled the store after the attack and tossed a knife on the tracks on the platform of a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority train station, police said. He was later captured at another SEPTA station in the city, police said.
The suspect, along with the security guards, have not been identified.
It wasn't immediately knowb what charges the suspect was facing, authorities said.
No other injuries were reported.
