Frogs were introduced in the world of Minecraft back in the 1.19 update. It was part of the voting system back in the 2019 Live event. Due to their new breading system and new food mechanics, their popularity grew exponentially in the community. They also have great animations. In contrast to actual frogs, there are only three types of frogs in Minecraft, and they are all adorable.

All of these in-game frogs have a jump height of three blocks, which is equal to the height of your in-game character model. Additionally, they take little to no fall damage, unlike any other non-flying mob. Frogs just hop around, enjoy sitting on lily pads, and just ribbiting around. You can find frogs mainly in a swamp and mangrove swamp biomes. Frogs are passive mobs i.e., they will not harm you. But they will attack some other mobs to feast on them.

If you are breading frogs for tadpoles in Minecraft, then it will be helpful to know what these cute mobs eat.

Frogs like to eat multiple things in Minecraft

Frogs could devour fireflies and, as a joke, even goats in early beta versions of Minecraft 1.19, but that’s no longer the case. Fireflies were taken out of the Minecraft 1.19 version. Now, the frogs can only use their long tongues to attack and consume tiny slimes and magma cubes. Either frogs eat their food by themselves or they can eat with help of players. Currently, frogs can eat these 3 things: small slimes, small magma cubes, and slime balls.

You can find small slime in swamps and mangrove swamps. The small slime will die as soon as a frog touches the slime with its tongue. After eating small slimes, frogs drop slime balls. You can feed slime balls to frogs later. Incidentally, frogs will follow players in Minecraft around if they have a slimeball in their hands. When fed slimeballs, these mobs will pair and lay frogspawn eggs in a water body.

You can also bring frogs some small magma cubes from the Nether. The little mob will attack the magma cube with their tongue but interestingly, the magma cube doesn’t drop magma cream. When frogs eat small magma cubes, they drop foglights. The color of the froglight cube depends on which variant of the frog has dropped it. These froglights are great decorating blocks.
