Leicester City is one of the top clubs in the English Premier League right now as their on-field performances have significantly improved over the past 5 years. Once the team used to be in the battle to avoid relegation but have done tremendously well to bring about a change in their fortunes. The club, in the last 5 years, have been a major threat to the so-called “big six” and have often managed to defeat them on numerous occasions.

The club rose to fame when they clinched the Premier League trophy in the 2015-16 season under the guidance of former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri. They also managed to defeat Chelsea in last season’s FA Cup final at Wembley adding another trophy to their cabinet. The Foxes have really come a long way from being the underdogs to now cementing their name among the “top six” as Arsenal and Tottenham, who were initially part of the prestigious bracket, have degraded massively over the past few years.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha and the takeover of Leicester City

Leicester City is owned by King Power, a Thai company that operates a vast number of duty-free shops in Thailand and beyond. The chairman of the company is Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, who succeeded his father Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in 2018 after his accidental demise. Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha launched a bid to take possession of Leicester City, then of the Championship, in the year 2010. The takeover was estimated to have cost the self-made billionaire a bit over £39 million and involved former chairman Milan Mandaric staying put in his role until the complete transactions and takeover was over.

Vichai was formally officially appointed chairman of the club in February of 2011 and immediately promised the fans that Leicester would return to the Premier League and break the monopoly of the ‘Big Six’ which compromised of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool since the inception of the Premier League in 1992.

Vichai’s brainchild, The King Power brand, was founded in 1989 with a single shop, and his empire has successfully emerged into a relative monopoly over Thailand’s duty-free business as well as several outposts all over Asia. King Power also has interests in shopping malls all over Thailand as well as the airline Thai AirAsia.

Net Worth of Leicester City

According to Forbes, the net worth of Leicester City Football Club is $455 million. The club generated a revenue of $189 million in the 2019-20 season and is currently running at 17% debts. The club operates at The King Power Stadium which has a seating capacity of 32,261. The club’s increase in followers saw a boom after their title-grabbing season which is arguably the most shocking moment in the Premier League to date.

The club which was originally known as Leicester Fosse F.C is expected to rise even more in the coming years as they have started to attract star players across the globe with their consistent and promising displays in recent years. The foxes missed out narrowly on a Champions League sport last season as they finished 5th in the Premier League table losing to Tottenham on the final matchday.
