In a recent press conference in Indianapolis, Pierce made it clear that whoever the franchise would draft in the 2024 NFL draft, they’ll make him a starter and lead the regular season. He also stated that the Raiders aren’t looking for a ‘band-aid’ solution as there has been a handful of those instances within the franchise.

He said via Vic Tafur of TheAthletic.com:

You don’t want to put a Band-Aid at that position. That’s old . . . that’s old, man. I think the Raiders . . . we’ve seen that enough in this organization.

Pierce further talked about how he has made it clear to general manager Tom Telesco about the gravity of the quarterback situation and how the head coach is looking for a leader in that position. He added:

I don’t know how it’s going to play out, but Telesco better start working his magic.

Raiders HC Antonio Pierce wants a leader to challenge Patrick Mahomes

Interesting, that’s not all the Raiders head coach said in his press conference. Pierce is looking at the upcoming NFL Draft to find a leader, who wants to compete. He argued that the biggest challenge the Raiders had faced up until now was incompetent quarterbacks, and he doesn’t want to continue the trail into the next season.

The 45-year-old head coach is looking for someone who loves to take on challenges, especially when he plans to target the three-time Super Bowl champion, Patrick Mahomes

He argued:

You know what you have to deal with each and every year as long as you have Patrick Mahomes in our division. . . . I want somebody that says, ‘You know what? I am up for that challenge.’ That’s the same way I look at it going against these three coaches in this division.

He acknowledges the tough competition the elite quarterback puts on the AFC teams every year. That’s why he wants someone who’s up for that challenge to face off against Mahomes– a “proven winner” he said.
